The Trail Operations Coordinator will gain job skills related to the management of trails, non-profit conservation organizations and recreation, and natural resources by working on a variety of projects in partnership with volunteers and under the supervision of TRTA staff. The incumbent will develop skills and proficiencies related to trail management, maintenance, and construction including the use of hand tools, power tools, chainsaws, crosscut saws, winches, remote-sensing equipment, and GIS, depending on interest and background.
Required Qualifications: • Must be 18 years of age, or older • Because this position requires driving, applicants must be 21+ • Ability and willingness to undergo a federal criminal background check is required • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record • Effective communication skills with people of diverse ages and backgrounds • Must be able to communicate clearly and consistently with TRTA staff • Experience with trail construction, design, and rehabilitation with a Conservation Corps, or other trail building organization • A high fitness level and an interest in camping overnight for backcountry work trips • Ability to work alone/in a small group in remote settings • Ability to work in large teams in remote settings (up to 15) • Experience and/or ability to learn the use of GPS unit • Willing to work outdoors and be capable of lifting 40 lbs • Able to take initiative, work independently, and participate in collaborative efforts • Ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays • Applicants are expected to be highly motivated to pursue a career in natural resource and trail management and be willing and able to perform assigned duties with little direct supervision • Experience with basic computer programs including the Microsoft Office Suite Desired Qualifications: • Database management and ArcGIS software experience • First Aid or Wilderness First Aid certified • USFS Chainsaw and/or crosscut saw certified • Experience with Griphoist winches and rigging for trailbuilding • Experience with stonework for trailbuilding • Experience working with pack stock • Knowledge and understanding of Leave No Trace principals • Knowledge and ability to utilize GPS equipment in the field • Knowledge and ability to utilize GIS programs such as ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro • Previous employment or volunteer work as a Crew Leader for a Conservation Corps, Federal Agency, or other trail building organization
