Description
Environment for the Americas coordinates diversity internship programs for many organizations. Our goals are to provide science-based internship and other career-building experiences for racially and ethnically undergraduate and graduate students, and recent graduates to increase relevancy, diversity and inclusion in national parks, national forests, and other public lands and natural areas. Job Description: The intern will conduct a much needed mapping project linked to historic sites and conducting local trail and public sites assessments for accessibility and viability. The results of the project will support and inform linking the expedition campsites and historic corridor with potential proposals for public use and enjoyment. The primary tasks of the internship will include: 1) Research and inventorying of historic maps and primary source documents. The intern will review and create a bibliography of historic maps and primary source documents. This includes confirming the location of archived historic documents. The intern will confirm if the NPS has a copy of historic documents, and if appropriate and funding is available acquire copies from archives. 2) Contact and interview academics and citizen historians, public land managers, and agency representatives. 3) Update the current inventory of historic and interpretive sites. The intern will contact academics and citizen historians, public land managers, agency representatives, and partners and collect information about the status of sites along the Anza Trail. This should include collecting information from Instituto Nacional de Anthropoligia e Historia(INAH), who administers the trail in Mexico). Start/End Date: This internship is an 11 week program starting Mid-May and ending Mid-August. Apply at https://www.environmentamericas.org/apply/ . Qualifications
Qualifications: Age 18 to 35 Possess US citizenship or permanent residence Be enrolled in a post-secondary educational program or have graduated from college within the past year Have a strong interest, or relevant experience, in areas pertaining to, but not limited to, history, historic preservation, public history, museum studies, archaeology, cultural interpretation, landscape architecture, anthropology or other related fields.
