Job Summary: The North Fork John Day Watershed Council seeks motivated individuals ages 18-24 to join our Technical Summer Conservation Crews. Crew members will work 8 day hitches and 6 days off under the supervision of a crew leader. Crews will be required to hike to remote backcountry locations to perform trail work, camping near the project sites. Work will include wilderness trail maintenance, trail and campground surveys, construction and data collection on the Malheur National Forest and the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness. Essential Functions: • Work outdoors under direction of an experienced crew leader • Hike several miles a day over uneven terrain to access worksites • Use chainsaws, cross-cut saws and hand tools (training provided) to perform project duties • Represent the North Fork John Day Watershed Council in a professional and safe way during work hours
Job Requirements: • Prior work experience is NOT required although experience with saws and hand tools will be useful • All crew members must be 18 years of age or older • Willingness and ability to camp overnight on a regular basis, in remote locations • Ability to be self-sufficient camping in the backcountry, carrying gear and following safety procedures • Commitment to working the entire season • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States Desired qualifications: • Have a great work ethic • Love hiking and spending time outdoors in all kinds of weather • Are interested in learning more about employment in natural resources Email resume and cover letter to
