Intensive 1-month field project sampling woody vegetation in a large wetland and stream restoration project on Brosnan Forest in central South Carolina. Interns will learn to identify over 100 Carolina coastal plain wetland plants, and gain experience in standard vegetation monitoring methodology. Will work in two teams of 3, each lead by an experienced ecologist. Housing (dorm) and sampling equipment/supplies are provided. Must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19, at least 2 weeks prior to start of work. Housing is provided. College internship credit can be arranged through school of candidate’s choice.
Successful candidate will be enrolled in or have recently completed a biological science degree program. Intern must be comfortable and competent with long days in the field working in wetlands, have basic understanding of vegetation sampling methods and plant identification, ability to endure extreme heat, biting insects, high water conditions, and work in remote settings. Typical work hours are from 7AM-5PM Mon-Fri. Experience with vegetation ID is a plus.
