- Rhode Island National Wildlife Refuge Complex is comprised of five national wildlife refuges with two visitor centers and two contact stations. Responsibilities include monitoring visitor use at Sandy Point Island, co-leading school groups on field trips, assisting at the visitor centers, working with conservation partners on summer interpretive programs, participating in fishing events, conducting visitation counts, trail monitoring/maintenance, supporting the biological program, and helping to welcome visitors to the refuges in Rhode Island. The internship position is available for 16 weeks between April to September 2023, with flexibility for the start and end dates. Refuge housing in Charlestown, RI may be available for non-local interns.
- Qualifications
- Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, and have the ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, especially heat and humidity, walk long distances on the beach, endure biting insects, and to work well with children and co-workers. Applicants must be a team player, capable of working with partners from other conservation organizations and willing to become certified as a motorboat operator. Additionally, applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.
