Description
We have an opening for 1 biological technician (OPS position, full-time, temporary) to assist the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission with an assessment of the mottled duck population. Position runs from December 2018 – March 2019. Start dates are somewhat flexible. Pay is $10/hour for 40 hours per week. Work locations will be Central Florida. Housing will be provided in the form of a house or large travel trailer. A 4x4 pick-up truck will be provided for travel associated with daily work. This is primarily a field position; working conditions can include heat, high humidity, rain, mud, and biting insects. It can even be kind of cool at times. On occasion, the successful candidate may be required to work alone, possibly in remote locations, but most work will be done as part of a two-person team. The primary work activity will be traveling by truck to numerous sampling locations located in central Florida; locating single, pairs, and flocks of mottled ducks, mallards, and hybrid waterfowl; and taking high-resolution images of the birds encountered. Images will be obtained using digital SLR cameras and super-telephoto lenses. Additional activities include: maintenance of vehicles, computer data entry, and miscellaneous other duties as assigned. Self-motivated persons with a background/interest in wildlife biology and strong interest in waterfowl/wetlands, who can work independently, are encouraged to apply.
