I am seeking highly-motivated research technicians to assist with a study evaluating the use of fall seeded cover crops by nesting waterfowl in eastern South Dakota. This research project will include both waterfowl nest searching and vegetation sampling. Individuals will assist in other parts of the project as necessary. Individuals will gain experience working with private land owners, SDGFP and Ducks Unlimited, Inc. Work on the project will involve ATV dragging or searching on foot to find waterfowl nests, identifying and monitoring nests throughout the breeding season, recording data on vegetation characteristics, and various other duties.
Desired qualifications include experience operating ATVs, nest dragging, waterfowl identification (specifically females flushing from nests), and egg candling. Experience working with private landowners is preferred. The ability to pay close attention to detail, work independently and in groups, have good communication skills, manage time efficiently, and collect quality data is critical. Applicants should expect to work in a variety of weather conditions (cold, hot, biting insects, etc.). Technicians may be expected to work more than 40 hours per week. Technicians must have a positive attitude and strong work ethic to be a part of this research project.
Tentative start and end dates: April 15 through July 31. Start and end dates may vary.
