Description
DESCO is seeking a Wetland Ecologist/Biologist DESCO Environmental Consultants, LP (DESCO) offers a full suite of environmental services, from planning and permitting through project completion. Our services include, but are not limited to: environmentally conscious project planning; regulatory permitting and compliance (NEPA, CWA, NHPA, ESA, CERCLA, MBTA, etc.); habitat and impact assessments; threatened, endangered, and sensitive (TES) species surveys; wetland assessments, delineation, remediation, mitigation, and monitoring; ecological and vegetation data collection; vegetation sampling and mapping; cultural resources surveys; development of habitat conservation and management plans; compliance monitoring; fish impact assessments; marine mammal monitoring; and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis, among others. DESCO is seeking a Wetland Ecologist/Biologist who can provide field and technical support for oil and gas, transportation, utilities, and development projects. Responsibilities of this position include: • Conducting wetland delineations and function and value assessments in accordance with USACE methodology to support Section 404/401 Clean Water Act permitting • Conducting vegetation/habitat assessments/mapping • Conducting impact assessments, restoration/mitigation planning, and success monitoring • Preparing accurate technical reports summarizing field surveys/efforts • Supporting DESCO’s Regulatory Permit Coordinators/Project Managers by providing experienced-based technical knowledge on flora, fauna, and natural systems in the southeast region including Texas, Louisiana, and other areas • Developing field methodology and budgets for biological surveys in support of project proposals and planning • Keeping abreast of industry and regulatory developments by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences • NEPA document development, including literature reviews and technical report writing • Managing field projects and field personnel • QA/QC of field data and technical reports • Mentoring of junior team members and newly hired biologists/ecologists
Qualifications
Minimum: • Bachelor of Science or Masters of Science in a scientific discipline (e.g. biology, environmental science, ecology, botany, etc.) • Eight (8) or more years of hands-on field experience and analysis • Strong botany background • Proficient at wetland delineation, vegetation identification, and soil classification • Strong communication skills in that applicant has the ability to communicate effectively and coordinate with project managers, clients, and regulators • Excellent technical writing skills, strong attention to detail, and computer literacy required • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and GPS programs • Strong life sciences background • Strong leadership skills • Strong work ethic and ability to get the job completed within tight timeframes and difficult conditions • Physical ability to hike 10 to 15+ miles a day in tough terrain and harsh conditions • Ability to work alone or with a team • Willingness to travel and/or conduct field work for up to three weeks in a stint Preferred: • Masters in Science discipline • PWS/CWB/Certified Ecologist • NEPA experience • TES species survey experience • Knowledge of and experience with oil and gas operations • GIS experience If interested and qualified, please submit your resume to tmatcek@descoenv.com.
