This is a 40 hour a week summer internship on a private hunting and fishing club in the Post Oak Savanah. This internship is designed so that the interns will be able to gain a large amount of hands on experience with things they have/will learn about in class. Short weekly meetings will be held between the Wildlife Biologist and the interns to review and discus the wildlife management practices and techniques used that week and the coming week. Species managed include: White-tailed Deer, Large Mouth Bass, Rio Grande and Eastern Turkey, Ducks, Alligators, Feral Swine, and a host of others. Start date of May 15 and flexible end date of early to mid August.
Duties include but not limited to:
Helping to collect largemouth bass and other fish though electroshocking from a boat, and transporting to other lakes on property.
Appling herbicide to; aquatic plants from specialized work boat, food plots, and invasive trees.
Filling and maintaining fish feeders and protein feeders.
Assisting with brood pond, duck marsh, and food plot development and maintenance.
Occasional work with the maintenance crew if help is needed.
Hire will be under the direction of the General Manager and Wildlife Biologist.
Be enrolled or plan to be enrolled in a WFSC degree plan
Have a valid driver’s license
Be a US citizen
Have a solid work ethic and be self-confident
Be capable of lifting 50 lbs.
Be able to swim
Have experience electroshocking fish
Have the ability to operate and maintain watercraft
Have knowledge of aquatic plant ID relative to East TX
Have knowledge of Post Oak Savannah Texas ecoregion
Have experience with trail cameras
Have experience with basic radio telemetry
Have Knowledge of: freshwater fish, White-tailed Deer, feral swine, wild turkey, and water fowl
Know basic mechanics of small engines and pumps
Have experience applying herbicides
Have experience operating tractors with a brush hog, backhoe, skid steer, and 4 wheeler
