Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION The White Mountain Backcountry Pro Crew will be performing trail maintenance on the Old Paugus Trail and the Bee Line Trail in the White Mountain National Forest. Traditionally, the Backcountry Crew works on the most challenging and technical trail building projects in northern Vermont and New Hampshire, all the while living in a “spike camp” during the week close to their project location. Crew members will receive specific, on-site training throughout the season. DUTIES Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: -Work alongside 3 other crew members while completing priority conservation projects -Respond to and work with leadership team in a respectful and productive manner -Promote a safe work environment for fellow crew members and the public -Maintain a positive attitude and enthusiasm to learn more about conservation and natural resource management -Opportunity for continued seasonal work in northeastern Vermont COMMITMENT Season Dates: approximately mid-April through the end of October. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, 40 hours per week. COMPENSATION Pay Rate: $15-17 per hour depending on prior experience Housing: This is a residential crew - members will be stationed at campsites in the White Mountains from Monday-Friday, and return home on the weekends. Food will be provided. Training Opportunities: Wilderness First Aid, trail building and maintenance skills, proper tool use, leadership development, OSHA job safety, ax use, Game of Logging chainsaw training.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS -Previous trail building experience preferred -Commitment to protecting and improving the quality of the environment for human and natural communities -The ability to work responsibly and cooperatively as a member of a team -Experience in conservation, carpentry, landscaping/gardening, or farm/woods work a plus -Capable of performing strenuous physical labor such as carrying 40+ pounds, including tools associated with duties (e.g. shovel, saw, etc.), over rough terrain -First Aid and CPR training a plus -Candidates must be at least 18 years old by May 1, 2021 HOW TO APPLY Please fill out an online application here: https://northwoodscenter.wufoo.com/forms/p3inx470fzmomj/ Applications will be considered on a rolling basis; apply early!
