This is a 2 month seasonal position working with Mississippi State University. Capture technicians will assist a graduate student with capture and collaring adult male and female white-tailed deer using dart rifles. Position duties include, but are not limited to:
(1) monitoring trail cameras at dart sites
(2) capturing deer from tree stands via dart rifle, and
(3) interfacing with agency biologists and private landowners. Position start date is still pending, but the position will include most of December and January.
Bachelor's degree or upper level status in wildlife biology, ecology, or related discipline. Applicants MUST have a valid driver's license. Preference will be given to candidates with ungulate capture and immobilization experience, field research background, and archery hunting experience.
Candidates must be able to take detailed field notes and follow strict capture protocols. Applicants must able to carry 50 lbs. of equipment two hundred yards over rough ground. Candidates should be prepared to work at night, on weekends, irregular hours, and live in close quarters as part of a team. An excellent work ethic is mandatory.
