The University of Missouri (UM) and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) are recruiting a research technician to study survival and reproductive ecology of eastern wild turkeys in northeast Missouri from 4/9/2018 – 8/3/2018. Primary responsibilities will be radio-tracking wild turkeys, marking nests, and conducting flush counts. Other duties will include contacting private landowners to obtain access for research activities, as well as working cooperatively with UM and MDC researchers. The technician will also be responsible for data entry. The research technician will often be required to work long hours outdoors, often in adverse weather conditions. Field vehicles will be provided to conduct research activities and housing is provided.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Ecology or related field is required. Previous field experience is highly preferred as is experience conducting radio-telemetry.
The research technician must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and possess a strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills. The technician must work effectively as part of a research team. Applicants must possess excellent inter-personal skills and be able to maintain a positive attitude despite challenging conditions. The research technician must be able to work in remote locations, often independently, and conduct field work that is often strenuous. Applicants must be able to work long hours, including early mornings outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
The research technician must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record. Applicants must be able to share field housing with other researchers.
