This position is part of the Information and Education Division of Baxter State Park and undertakes natural resource-based projects, and provides environmental and conservation education via public contact on Katahdin, children’s programs, and community environmental education, among other duties. Wilderness Educator Interns are self self-motivated, mature, and creative individuals who should be strong hikers in sound physical condition. This is a 24 week position that includes housing, a shared work vehicle, and a weekly stipend. Work is performed under the supervision of the Interpretive Specialist.
-Enrollment in or completion of a degree in natural sciences, education, or environmental education preferred.
-Be able to hike extremely rugged terrain during Mountain Patrol 5 days/week every other week
-Effectively communicate with strong oral/written communication skills.
-Demonstrate good people skills, including being outgoing and friendly.
-Live in primitive shared housing or alone in remote situations without electricity.
-Work cooperatively with fellow employees, supervisors and management.
-Available to work the entire time frame (13 May - 27 October) of the internship.
-Current and valid driver’s license
-Work a 40-hour week, including every weekend with two week days off.
