There is currently two seasonal positions (999 hrs maximum) available at the Colby District office directly supervised by Kevin Klag, District Wildlife Biologist. This position is for the summer of 2018. The incumbent will be involved in KDWPT private lands’ wildlife program operations.
This position will primarily be involved with posting Walk-In Hunting Area boundaries in northwest Kansas. Job duties will include operating an agency vehicle and an ATV to post WIHA properties throughout the region. The incumbent will have the opportunity to work outdoors throughout the summer in the 9 northwest counties of Kansas. Job duties may also include other aspects of private lands’ wildlife management as time allows; including aerial pronghorn surveys, summer brood surveys, and any other projects deemed necessary by the Biologist.
The incumbent will be expected to know how to read aerial maps, legal descriptions, and experience operating a 4WD vehicle and ATV. The incumbent should also be willing to work in remote locations as well as extreme temperatures for long periods of time.
Incumbent will work 40 hours per week. Position will run May/June to August/September.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically fit and be able to perform a variety of demanding tasks in a variety of outdoor settings and weather conditions. Must be able to work independently or as a team member. Required to be at least 18 years or age and possess a valid driver’s license. Preference will be given to students who are working towards a degree in natural resources.
