Description
The Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida's Wildlife Department is looking to hire a well-rounded Fisheries and Wildlife Biologist familiar with South Florida ecosystems. The incumbent will assist with the implementation of the Miccosukee Fish and Wildlife Department's wildlife management programs. Work will be in the Florida Everglades and other tribal lands. Examples of work include but are not limited to conducting biological surveys for fish and wildlife, habitat management, collecting biological data, managing wildlife, telemetry studies, camera trapping, exotic species removal (plants and animals including pythons), handle python detection dog, data analysis and report writing, wildland fire, as well as other directed activities. Biologist will participate in meetings and hearings on wildlife and Everglades restoration when necessary. Must be willing to work some nights and weekends. Salary: Based upon experience. Schedule: Full-time; 40 hrs. per week. Includes benefits: health and retirement. Qualifications EDUCATION/TRAINING: A Bachelor's degree in wildlife management/biology/ecology/natural resource or similar field AND One year of professional level experience in a wildlife management or natural resource sciences, or environmental science related field. OR A Master's degree in the applicable science will substitute one year of the required experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Extensive outdoor experience in remote areas. Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and techniques used in biological research, and analysis regarding wildlife management and ecology. Data analysis, data summaries for reports and presentations. Hunting familiarity and use of firearms a plus. Prior boat or airboat driving experience. Working knowledge of ESRI ArcMap and GPS units to gather information and generate maps and navigate. Ability to adapt to a variety of job situations involving long hours, hazardous conditions and difficult circumstances. Ability to drive off road in 4x4 truck. Conduct conservation programs to special interest groups and the general public. Ability to travel and occasionally stay overnight. Work varying hours and shifts. Must possess a valid driver’s license throughout the duration of employment. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to work outdoors in South Florida’s hot humid & stormy weather; able to tolerate insects and snakes and being wet. Able to lift and carry up to forty (40) pounds unassisted through the woods. Job Site: Miccosukee Indian Reservation located in the Florida Everglades; 20 Miles West of Krome Avenue on SW 8th Street
