Description
Under the direction of the Research and Inventory Division Assistant Administrator, this position would provide direct research support for the Big Game and Big Game Disease Program activities including Design, coordinate, monitor and evaluate statewide big game research projects, including big game movement studies, harvest information collection, population surveys (ground and aerial), and reproduction/mortality monitoring. Conduct complex statistical analysis of current and future data including but not limited to – population surveys, disease sampling, and any other big game-related analysis needs. The ability to produce technical reports and peer-reviewed publications. Coordinate the statewide disease monitoring, collection, and delivery of animals and/or tissue samples to disease and/or forensic testing facilities, and coordinate Commission disease response, as necessary. Maintain the ability to communicate effectively with staff, Commissioners, and the general public. Handle routine inquiries from the public regarding big game disease, research findings, rules and regulations, and season date information. Supervise any temporary staff as necessary. Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of wildlife diseases and research design principles, goals, objectives and techniques, ecological principles, and species’ life histories and habitat needs. Basic knowledge of budgeting processes and data management. Solid computer skills, especially Microsoft Office and ArcGIS. Statistical background with programs such as Program R, SAS, or any other modeling packages. Ability to communicate effectively, plan, set goals and prioritize work. Ability to perform heavy physical labor and work outdoors for long periods of time; operate and maintain various tools. Ability to guide the work of others and develop and maintain professional relations with a broad range of agencies and constituents. Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND three years experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field: OR Master's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND one year experience in fish and wildlife management or a closely related field.
