Description
H. T. Harvey & Associates, an ecological consulting firm based in Northern California, is looking for a wildlife biologist for a project in eastern San Luis Obispo County, California. The on-call position will be from January 2022 to December 2022. What you’ll do This is an on-call position in support of compliance with environmental requirements during the operation of a solar energy project. You will be part of our Central Valley team and conduct field studies, including listed species (San Joaquin kit fox, giant kangaroo rat, and San Joaquin antelope) surveys, nesting bird surveys, and construction monitoring. Work will include data collection and contributing to client reports. The successful candidate will work with experienced senior ecologists as part of a collaborative project team. Who works at H. T. Qualifications
Required experience and skillset •A demonstrable background in ecology or wildlife management and broad knowledge of the biology of desert fauna •Previous experience with San Joaquin kit fox, giant kangaroo rat, and San Joaquin antelope squirrel, including trapping and burrow excavation •Bird identification skills •Experience with field data entry on mobile devices •Attention to detail •Clear and precise writing skills •A collaborative approach to work and communication Desired qualifications •A bachelor’s or master’s degree in biological studies, natural resources, wildlife management, wildlife biology, or an equivalent subject •Previous experience working as an authorized Designated Biologist for San Joaquin kit fox, giant kangaroo rat, and San Joaquin antelope squirrel •Prior experience working on a construction site This position requires the future employee to: •Hold a valid driver’s license with no major traffic violations or multiple minor violations •Flexibility to work up to 5 days/week in the project area (on-call position) •Work early morning hours, and occasional nights and weekends, as needed •Walk over varied terrain for surveys •Occasionally dig with a shovel •Perform job duties in inclement weather •Follow best practices for field safety How to apply Interested candidates should respond by submitting a resume, academic transcripts, and a cover letter.
