This position will assist the wildlife biologist with the implementation of priority species and habitat management efforts in Dane County and the broader Fitchburg work unit. Duties will include working with partner groups to implement the Adopt a Wildlife Area program on state lands, coordinating all species survey efforts including CWD/TB testing and deer aging, assisting with Deer Management Assistance Program customers, as well as assisting the work unit with regular budget planning and grant acquisition. This position will be the primary liaison to partner groups in the area and will be expected to take a leadership role on all directed outreach efforts to promote wildlife program efforts in the area.
Candidates for this position should have a working knowledge of wildlife management techniques pertaining to common Wisconsin habitat types. They should be familiar with equipment operation and maintenance including UTVs, boats, chainsaws and tractors. Experience with GIS and mapping software is preferred. Candidates are required to have a driver's license and the willingness to acquire a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) upon being hired.
