Wildlife Care Manager The Wildlife Care Manager ensures that the animals residing at the wildlife center receive the highest level of compassionate, humane care on a daily basis and that all current wildlife operational protocols are in accordance to federal and state regulations and being adhered to by wildlife staff, interns, and volunteers. Reports to: Senior Wildlife Manager Job Type: Full-time, hourly, non-exempt Duties and Responsibilities (to include, but not limited to) Performs initial intake exam for all wildlife species coming into Anderson Humane, devises a treatment and care plan, triages and perform euthanasia in accourdance to Anderson’s wildlife euthanasia protocol. Obtains and maintains a Certified Euthansia Technician license for the duration of employment Obtains and maintains a Certified Wildlife Rehabilitation license granted from IWRC Carries out and monitors all aspects of daily animal caretaking duties, including medical treatment directives with attentiveness and empathy follows daily cleaning protocols and ensures a clean and sanitary work environment Monitors the effectiveness and timeliness of the medical care and rehabilitation process; actively contributes ideas to improve efficiency and effectiveness to the Senior Wildlife Manager. Keeps accurate wildlife records updating with pertinent information in a timely manner; organizes and stores files to be readily available to wildlife center staff at all times. Cultivates positive professional relationships with wildlife veterinarians; schedules medical visits, carries out medical directives communicating the animal’s progress during recovery. Sustains a positive, respectful rapport with wildlife release locations; schedules and performs wildlife release dates when additional staff is unavailable. Partners with Anderson program managers to promote the wildlife volunteer and internship program within the community and on social media; share ideas to develop creative recruitment methods. Shows appreciation and regularly communicates the value and impact of their contributions to the volunteers and interns. Works with Senior Wildlife Manager to clearly identify several high-level goals for professional growth; and to establish short-term and long-term goals to further enhance and develop Anderson’s wildlife rehabilitation program. Assists the Senior Wildlife Manager to establish new and improve upon existing wildlife care protocols and procedures in accordance with federal and state laws. Stays current on developing issues in wildlife and animal welfare. Works collaboratively with Anderson’s management staff and CEO to ensure that all organizational goals are met. Treat all animals humanely with compassion at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance. Promote a humane and caring attitude toward all animals to the public, staff, and volunteers. Attends monthly All Staff Meetings and weekly Manager Meetings. Other duties as assigned. Qualified Candidate Requirements BA/BS preferred, Associates’ degree required. At least 3 years of experience in wildlife rehabilitation. Must have or obtain a valid Wildlife Rehabilitator license from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Enthusiastic support of Anderson’s mission and future plans; desire to advance the organization. Effective time management skills; can multi-task and redirect efforts when priorities change. Communicates clearly verbally and in written form; superior interpersonal communication skills exuding warmth and inclusion. Models professional behavior; remains calm and pleasant to diffuse stressful or high-emotion situations; asks appropriate questions in an effort to gather pertinent information. Works cooperatively on cross-functional organizational programs, projects and fundraising. Is emotionally mature, attentive, reliable, honest, and encompasses integrity with decisiveness. Can work a flexible schedule of non-standard hours to grow the program and benefit the organization. Weekend, evening, and holiday shifts may be required for occasional organizational events, activities and meetings. Relates to and appreciates differences in people while thriving in a collaborative work environment. Compassion and affection for animals of all kinds, concern for their welfare and understanding of wildlife behavior and common medical issues. Work Environment Willingness and ability to work with domestic and wildlife animals of all temperaments and species, and to accommodate animals in the workplace. Exposure to high noise levels; potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, animal bites and scratches. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, crouch, bend at the waist, kneel, squat, walk, and talk for up to ten hours a day; lift at least fifty pounds with assistance from floor to table height and vice-versa; engage in repetitive motions of legs, arms and hands, and to hear and see at levels where the movement of animals and objects is not physically limited; drive a vehicle and operate office equipment; input data, read computer screens and printed material; communicate effectively in-person, on a phone, while video conferencing and in e-mail.
