The Wildlife Science Center (WSC) is a nationally recognized education and research facility that is home to birds of prey, critically endangered red, Mexican gray, and gray wolves, bears, cougars, foxes, bobcats, raccoons, skunks, and lynx. WSC is a unique wolf center that: 1) Provides education programs to 20,000 – 25,000 people annually. 2) Conducts and assists in research involving wolf physiology, behavior, reproduction, and genetics. 3) Trains both student and professional biologists alike through wildlife handling courses. 4) Assists with the conservation of critically endangered red and Mexican gray wolves. Communications/Marketing Interns play a crucial role in increasing public awareness and generating an understanding of the Wildlife Science Center and our mission. Interns will gain professional experience managing a brand, while being immersed in the world of a wildlife non-profit. You will exercise running social media pages, promoting events and educational programs, increasing visitor traffic, and sharing our mission and story as a wildlife research, conservation, education, and animal care center. Social media presence and online content is a vital part of how we educate and spread awareness of conservation issues. It also plays a large role in informing the public about WSC news, tours, programs, and donation opportunities. It is important for Communications/Marketing Interns to be social media savvy, with writing skills and an eye for aesthetics. You must be able to market the WSC while staying true to our brand and mission of wildlife research, conservation, and education This is also an excellent opportunity to garner information on animal care/handling, as well as experience the wild world of captive wildlife research and management. You may be asked to participate in animal captures, wolf pup experiences, and veterinary/research procedures. Note: This internship will average 20 hours per week with a $75 stipend per week. Housing is not available for communications interns. Most work will be done on-site for the first few weeks and may transition to work from home with weekly on-site check-ins. You must provide your own computer and be comfortable around dogs. Primary Internship Responsibilities: • Increase social media following and public outreach • Daily social media management, monitoring, and growth (mainly on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) • Assure quality photos of animals are being taken in a timely manner to share with social media followers and donors • Create video/photo media to showcase day to day life at WSC • Promote donation opportunities • Edit website to make it more user friendly and attractive • Market events, public tours, and educational programs • Share hours and location to increase the amount of visitor traffic • Manage online gift shop (promote products, develop new products/deigns, etc) To Apply: Email a cover letter, resume, unofficial transcripts, two completed reference forms (found on our website), and the completed application form (also found on our website) to Roberta@wildlifesciencecenter.org by February 11th. • Ability to work independently and be a self starter as well as work well with others • Strong communication skills (written and oral) • Be well organized and have the ability to relate to a wide variety of individuals • Must adhere to all safety SOPs while on-site • Ability to work occasional weekends and/or evenings to help with events • Must be able to take and follow directions, completing assigned tasks in a timely manner • Undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate • Must have taken or be enrolled in a communications, marketing, media or similar coursework • Experience with Microsoft office and the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite are preferable • Must be punctual and have regular attendance • Possess a willingness to learn • Highly motivated to support the Wildlife Science Center • Willing to abide by the Wildlife Science Center’s mission, vision and values
