The College of Agricultural Sciences at the Penn State University is looking for a Research Technologist. This position will be housed in the PA Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management, and requires knowledge of tools and techniques used in wildlife science. Primary responsbility will be to assist with creating datasets and conducting analyses to identify landscape and other factors that influence the population dynamics or white-tailed deer and wild turkey Ability to conduct survival analyses, estimating home range size and mapping home range boundaries using programs R, ESRI ArcGIS®, MARK, Microsoft Access®, and Microsoft Excel® desirable. This person will be responsible for programming data collection schedules for satellite GPS collars manufactured by Vectronic Aerospace, downloading data from retrieved collars. Upload, and organizing data using the online database management tools on https://www.movebank.org. In addition, the applicant will collaborate with supervisor and Pennsylvania Game Commission personnel analyzing data and preparing manuscripts for publication. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to, assisting the Pennsylvania Game Commission with capturing wild white-tailed deer and wild turkey. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. This position will support a long-term research project on white-tailed deer (https://deer.psu.edu) and new research on wild turkey.

This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) plus 7 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Fieldwork will require occasional overnight travel and cold or wet working conditions. Must be able to carry 50-lb. loads 100 yards. The successful applicant must demonstrate a strong work ethic, thrive in a team environment, and have initiative to work independently. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
