Description
The position’s primary duties will focus on the management, processing and analysis of video surveillance and still camera imagery data. Manages video and still camera surveillance systems, obtaining and managing the appropriate county, city, and state permits for research projects and assisting in drafting Environmental Assessment Checklists and creating GIS maps. Prepares equipment and informational materials for wildlife capturing events. Conducts wildlife surveys and manages wildlife tracking data. Assisting in drafting project reports, and presents at professional meetings. Additional duties include: collecting and summarizing survey data; maintaining databases; assisting in project implementation; wildlife capture; providing field support for program and/or projects. Additional duties may include performing a variety of technical and entry level professional wildlife work in support of biologists and project administrators in one or more wildlife management and/or research programs in habitat, game, non-game, or fishery. Will assist the project lead and may train and oversee interns and technicians. Assignments may require extended periods working and residing in primitive field conditions and operating a variety of water and land vehicles. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The candidate will have knowledge of/in: experimental and scientific research concepts and methods; mathematics; statistics; technical writing; basic report preparation methods. The candidate will have skill in: wildlife and basic wildlife management techniques sufficient to perform duties assigned; basic professional standard data collection and analysis; operation, maintenance and basic repair of field equipment and vehicles; problem solving techniques; first aid. The candidate will have the ability to: work outdoors in primitive field conditions; hike, backpack and/or camp overnight for extended periods of time. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of video and still camera surveillance systems including operation and maintenance. The preferred candidate will have knowledge and understanding of behavior of various wildlife species and be skilled in species identification with the ability to determine sex and age of species from still and video imagery. The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in a wildlife science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Employment is contingent upon completion of a post-offer medical/physical examination and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions. This position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training in accordance with Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.
