The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) seeks motivated individuals to participate in a 12-week wildlife management summer internship in the state. These internships are designed to give real-world experience in the wildlife management field. The intern will assist SCDNR Wildlife Management Area and Heritage Preserve staff with wildlife management duties. These duties may include, but are not limited to, planting food plots and dove fields, herbicide application, prescribed burning, wildlife, and plant surveys (i.e., black bears, wild turkeys, fox squirrels, red-cockaded woodpeckers, rare plants), feral hog trapping, dove banding, GPS/GIS mapping projects, equipment setup and maintenance, and property maintenance (gates, signs, clean-up, etc.). Not all duties will be performed at all locations.
Applicants must be working toward a degree in wildlife management or a closely related field. Recently graduated individuals seeking field experience are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. They will also need the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and to work independently with little supervision.
