Description
Wildlife Program staff in the Panhandle Region are seeking to hire 1 temporary Wildlife Survey Technician to assist with regional monitoring efforts. Start and end dates are flexible. The position will start as soon as a qualified applicant is found and will continue into mid-August. The technician will work with other regional staff as well as on their own to deploy wildlife monitoring cameras across the region. Deploying and revisiting game cameras involves on- and off-trail travel through steep, heavily vegetated terrain. The technician will, at times, be required to hike 5+ miles a day. There will also be opportunities to join regional staff on other wildlife-related fieldwork such as collar mortality investigations, otter surveys, and vegetation surveys. Optional camp trailer housing with access to a shared kitchen and bathrooms is available. Qualifications
- Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a small team. - Ability to work in mountainous settings. - Ability to drive on various types of roads (highways, primitive dirt roads) and navigate using maps and GPS devices. Valid driver’s license required. - Experience using mountain bikes and ATVs in rugged terrain is a plus. - Ability to collect data in a rigorous manner and carefully follow instructions. Physical requirements • Must be capable of carrying a +30lb pound backpack and able to hike 5+ miles per day in rough terrain.
