Wildlife Technician – Avian: Springville, Utah

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, has avian field technician position (no benefits) available at Springville, Utah. This appointment will last from approximately March 1 through June 30, 2022. Housing is not provided.
Duties include traveling to and locating survey sites throughout west-central Utah, conducting pinyon jay occupancy surveys and nesting colony searches, conducting point count surveys, making basic vegetation & habitat assessments, and entering data & performing quality control.
These positions require extensive time driving, hiking, and overnight camping (often primitive) in remote settings and varying weather conditions, while working independently. Ability to handle a 4wd truck and navigate using maps (including paper) and GPS is necessary. Field equipment needed to accomplish required tasks will be provided.
Applicants should possess relevant education/experience in wildlife biology or a closely related field. Attention to detail and following protocols is also required. Experience identifying birds by sight and sound, especially Great Basin species, is preferred.
