Part time winter animal caretaker position offered at wildlife rehabilitation center in central Idaho. Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary is located 7 mi from the town of McCall, Idaho, on 35 isolated acres of pristine mountain land. Snowdon is a small, non-profit operation whose mission is to rescue and rehabilitate injured and orphaned animals and return them to the wild. Winter animals include resident educational birds, rehab bear cubs, and occasional rescue animals. Duties include food preparation and feeding, cleaning enclosures, general observation of animals’ health, keeping clinic clean, and answering the telephone. Responsibilities also include general maintenance of enclosures and surrounding grounds, including snow removal to keep paths and enclosures open. Other activities may include assisting with educational programs. Full-time housing offered in exchange for 4 days/week caretaker duties. Work schedule allows for picking up a part-time job in the community, compatible with Snowdon schedule. Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary is “off the grid”. There is no electricity; a generator is on site for limited use for the clinic and animal care. Wireless internet available and cell phone coverage. Unlimited recreation opportunities out the back door, friendly community. 4-wd vehicle recommended during winter.
At least 20 yrs old. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. Background in pre-veterinary sciences preferred but not required.
