3 Field Technicians needed from approximately December 1, 2018 to the end of February 2019 for a study of secretive marsh birds on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. This project will involve line transect surveys for secretive marsh birds along the entire Mississippi coast, requiring boating to survey areas. Duties will include: Conducting marsh bird transect surveys, sampling vegetation, data entry and management, as well as maintaining field equipment and boats. Some activities will be strenuous with conditions in salt marshes being humid and involving biting insects for some of the season. Line transects will be surveyed on foot through potentially thick mud and dense vegetation. Housing will be provided.
Qualifications: B.S. in wildlife, biology, zoology, ecology, or closely related field. Applicants should have experience with line transect or point count surveys and experience with secretive marsh birds is preferred. Experience with boat operation and maintenance is desired, though not required.
