Friends of Blackwater, a West Virginia conservation advocacy group, seeks an Outreach Coordinator to work at FOB's office in Tucker County, WV. Good writing and graphic design skills, public relations, social media, data base management and networking skills are required. Salary commensurate with experience. Organization: Friends of Blackwater (www.saveblackwater.org) works through public education, outreach, advocacy (including litigation), and restoration – to protect the ecology, landscapes, outdoor recreation and tourism economy, and heritage of the Allegheny Highlands region -- and especially the Blackwater Canyon, West Virginia’s scenic “Crown Jewel.” Projects include protecting rare and endangered species, with a special focus on “Ginny,” the West Virginia northern flying squirrel,; cleaning up streams in the Blackwater River watershed; engaging with the Monongahela National Forest to protect one million acres of public land; promoting outdoor recreation and heritage tourism; organizing volunteers to build and maintain trails; and education and outreach on the impacts of climate change in the Highlands. FOB has a committed donor base and excellent grant history, with an average annual budget of $150,000; and is one of WV’s most well-respected environmental advocacy organizations. Job Duties. ● Designing publications including flyers, brochures, newsletters, and fund appeal letters. ● Developing tools for public speaking such as posters, power point presentations, banners and short videos. ● Managing social media platforms such as FOB’s website, Facebook page, Twitter and YouTube. Managing new donor recruitment campaigns on-line using Google Ads. ● Supporting fundraising using direct mail, e-mail
College degree and experience in advocacy and communication. Strong work ethic and sense of responsibility. Comfortable taking controversial public advocacy positions. Experience with developing and managing website content and social media. Microsoft Office, Excel, Access or similar database systems, desktop publishing especially InDesign and Photoshop. GPS & GIS experience a plus. Organizational and leadership skills and an enthusiasm for the outdoors and wildlife. Personal vehicle and acceptable driving history.
