The successful applicant will be responsible, among other things, for: • This position requires initiative, flexibility, professionalism, the willingness to take on new challenges, and the ability to produce accurate and effective waterfowl rescues and bookkeeping • Follow all applicable safety rules under MSHA guidelines that include wearing a personal flotation device around the water, observing the plant speed limit, using parking brakes and wheel chocks, wearing all required PPE (hard hat, steel toe boots, earplugs, and earmuffs), etc. • Safely use mobile equipment including airboats, amphibious 8-wheel boats, and a fishing open top kayak to rescue, clean, and release waterfowl that land in trona tailings ponds • Work in windy, hot, cold, wet, and dry conditions, in an environment that is very saline • Be capable or willing to learn how to back up a truck and trailer to unload the boats and park inside the garage • Keep boats, equipment, and area clean each day by washing area and performing housekeeping duties as needed, and fill up gasoline in boats and trucks every day • Be flexible; this position is not a Monday – Friday 8 am – 4 pm job; it requires starting at sunrise most days (varies between 6:30 and 7:45 start times), working most weekends, and being flexible to work longer than 8 hour days if the number of birds or other items require such work; be eager to perform other duties when asked, such as helping with groundwater well monitoring, dam safety inspections, repair signs, and fence, cut down brush, and other miscellaneous items that need to be completed around the environmental department • Show compassion towards aggressive and large species, including Western Grebes, Canada Geese, Common Loons, and American White Pelicans; we can handle anywhere from 100 to over 2000 birds each year (July – November) depending on migration and weather
Minimum Requirements: • High school diploma or equivalent • Must be able to successfully pass a drug and alcohol test, as well as a background check • At least 18 years of age • Fluent in English • Willing to work weekends, various hours, and due to conflicts with planned vacations, take a maximum of 5 days in a row (or 40 hours) unpaid time off during the season (dependent on the availability of other employees for shift coverage) • MSHA Surface Metal/Non-Metal certification or the ability to obtain the certification that will expire after December 2021; Certification should be obtained before July 26th if possible • Personal drive to excel at tasks, without being told to do the tasks (i.e. no idle time) • The ability to lift & carry up to 60 lbs. occasionally; stand/walk/climb stairs; lean over the side of boats; wear duel hearing protection and other PPE where required • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills • Eagerness to learn about the interaction between industrial settings and wildlife mitigation • Willing and eager to work on various boats using approved standard operating procedures Desired Skills/Qualifications: • Degree or interest in Biology, Wildlife Biology, or Environmental Science • Previous experience working at a mine site under MSHA regulations • Previous boating experience including kayaks, airboats, and wheeled boats • Previous experience backing up trailers • Previous wildlife handling experience Other Information: • Please note that this is a 4-month temporary position, with no chance of being hired full time at the mine site through this temporary position • Applicants from out of town must provide their own housing and transportation to and from work o Please note that the mine site is located approximately 40 miles from Rock Springs, and 26 miles from Green River – the closest towns • PPE supplied by Employer includes: hard hat, steel-toed rubber boots, safety glasses (clear and sunglasses), gloves, PFD, earplugs, earmuffs, basic rain jacket & bib-style pants To Apply: Please submit a cover letter and resume to Tara Nelson (Environmental) at tnelson@ciner.us.com and copy CSlane@ciner.us.com (HR) by May 31st, 2021.
